Hi Palcomster!
Let, and make are called causative verbs because they cause something else to happen. But the using of them is not really specific, so we must understand more to apply in a sentence. Here are some examples of how causative verbs
LET = permit something to happen
- Let+person/noun +verb (base form)
Examples:
- I don’t let my friends come to the class.
- Please don’t let the dog come inside.
Note:
- The past tense of let is let, no change
- The verbs allow and permit is more formal ways to say “let.” And we apply them by using to + verb, examples;
- I don’t allow somebody to see my files.
- My mom permits us to go out in the night.
MAKE = force or require someone to take an action
- make + person + verb (base form)
Examples:
- I make you all stand by here
- Don’t worry! They will make her forgive you
