At the discussion times will talk about the simple present tense in which the tense is a tense that explains the current timing, the real truth, the daily activity and habitual action in our lives. In simple present tense there are two kinds of sentences, there are verbal sentences and nominal sentences. In this occasion that will be discussed is the nominal sentence.

Nominal sentence is a sentence that there is no verb in it. But there are adjectives, adverbs or nouns. Because there is no verb in the nominal sentence it takes verb to be as an auxiliary verb. Following explanation:

Subjects             Verb to be

    I                               am

  You

 They                                    are

  We

  She

   He                            is

   It

On the explanation above we know that the subject I verb to be is “am”, Subjects You, They and we verb to be “are” while subjects she, he and it verb to be “is “. In nominal sentences there are three types of sentences namely, positive sentences, negative sentences and interrogative sentences. Following the explanation:

  1. Positive Sentence

Examples: You are late (Kamu terlambat)

She is nervous in English examination

(Dia gugup di ujian Bahasa Inggris)

  1. Negative Sentence

Examples: You are not late (kamu tidak terlambat)

She is not nervous in English examination

(Dia tidak gugup di ujian Bahasa Inggris)

  1. Interrogative Sentence

Examples: Are you late? (apakah kamu terlambat)

Is she nervous in English examination?

(Apakah dia gugup di ujian Bahasa Inggris)

From the explanation and the above example is clear that the nominal use of sentence only for the sentence has no verb, so it takes to be as a verb auxiliary, based on the subject.
