Let’s Learn Homograph

Well, in this opportunity, we will discuss about homograph. Do you know about homograph?

Homo-, as you know, means “same.”

But the end of each word tells us what the same is.

So, Homograph – “Graph” has to do with writing or drawing. “Homograph” means “same picture” or “same writing but those words have different meaning sometimes different pronunciation as well.” Homographs are written (spelled) the same.

Look at these examples:

  • Bear (verb) means to endure, and bear (noun) is a name of an animal can be considered as one of the examples of homograph. In the sentences: I can bear it in a whole of my life. I always see a bear behind my house.
  • Can (modal auxiliary) mean able, and can (noun) means tin. Examples in sentences; I can swim well. I have a can of milk.
