Possesive Adjective and Possesive Pronoun

Most of people get confused about the difference between possesive adjective and possesive pronoun. Basically they have the same function, its function is to show ownership. Possesive adjective comes before noun in the sentence but possesive pronoun does not come before noun or noun phrase, it can stand alone.

The following words of possesive adjectives are :

-My                   -her                  – its

-Your                 -his

-Our                  -their

The examples in the sentences :

  • My mother invites me to go
  • They borrow his money
  • Her brother and his sister eat together

Note : You can see the possesive adjectives above come before the nouns

The folowing words of possesive pronouns are :

-Mine                -hers                 -its

-Yours              – his

-Ours                -theirs

The examples in the sentences :

  • I saw two pens on the table but those are not mine
  • He has many pens and I borrow his
  • Whose house is that ?, ohh that’s hers

From the examples above you can see that possesive pronoun can stand alone
