3. Learn how the questions work

It sounds obvious, but read each question and answer choice carefully, and be cautious of distracting choices – ones that may look correct at first glance, but are wrong. Finally, be sure to double-check your selection before clicking to confirm your answer and move on.

4. Build your memory skills

You can take notes or during the Listening section, but it’s still important practice listening to longer conversations and remembering key details. The entire listening section takes 40 to 60 minutes, which can be tiring if you haven’t practiced for that long. Practice at home under actual test-taking conditions to maximize your chance of success in the exam.

5. Manage your time

Many questions trap you into wasting time, so avoid this by setting yourself a careful limit for each question before you start the section. Also practice speed-reading techniques like skimming and scanning. You can’t lose points for incorrect answers, so take a guess even if you aren’t sure.

6. Secrets for reading section

  • Familiarize yourself with key academic vocabulary
  • Practice reading without using a dictionary.  This will help you improve your reading comprehension without the need to understand every word.
  • Concentrate on the areas in the passage that the questions pertain to.  Skim the passage, read the questions, then read again for more details.
  • You will usually be asked a main idea question, at least two vocabulary questions, some detailed question and inference questions.
  • You will not have the time to re-read a whole passage in detail.

7. Secrets for listening section

  • Simulate a real testing environment- when practicing for the listening section, only play the CD once.  This will train your ears to listen fully the first time.
  • During the real exam do not look  back at listening questions you have already answered.
  • Learn to listen for main ideas, presentation and key details.

8. Secret for grammar and structure

  • Use the Continuous Aspect When Referring to a Progressive or Temporary Action
  • Use “the” for Defined Things, People or Places
  • Use Adjectives Only When Describing People, Places or Things
  • “Who,” “Whom” and “Which” Are Not Interchangeable
  • The Future Is Not Used in Time and Conditional Clauses
  • The Present Perfect Is Used When There Is a Connection with the Present
  • Do Not Use Inversions in Embedded Questions
  • To Express Contrast, the Correct Structure Depends on the Phrase Used
