Much and many suggest a large quantity: ‘a lot of’.
MUCH precedes uncountable nouns. The uncountable nouns are such as milk, marmalade, money, time etc.
For example :
- I don’t have much time, and you don’t have much money. It means that I don’t have a lot of time, and you don’t have a lot of money.
- How much money have you got?
MANY precedes countable nouns. The countable nouns are such as bottles of milk, jars of marmalade, dollars, minutes etc.
For example :
- We have many friends, in many countries. It means that we have a lot of friends, in a lot of countries.
- How many dollars have you got?
